Bronze standards – Practices

Pillar One – People & Wellbeing

  1. There is a written structure in place for positive, clear and regular communication Business goals are shared with all staff
  2. The leadership skills required in the practice have been identified and a training/development plan is in place
  3. New team members follow an induction programme, each team member has a written Personal Development Plan
  4. There is a written series of steps for induction, and each team member has skills or development gaps identified for which there is a plan to address
  5. Regular staff 1:1s are carried out
  6. Regular Staff meetings are held and minuted
  7. There is a written and spoken commitment to honesty and respect in communication, and this is monitored
  8. Each team member receives the living wage as a minimum
  9. Written criteria for financial and other rewards are communicated with all staff
  10. All team members are offered access to occupational health for physical and mental wellbeing
  11. Contracts of employment and other statutory documents are in place, kept up to date, and adhered to.
  12. All suppliers are paid within the time scale of their terms
  13. Pricing structures are published on the practice website/leaflet
  14. All patients sign for treatment consent
  15. Reasonable adjustments are made for disability access
  16. A system for gathering patient feedback is in place
  17. Information is readily available to help patients make informed decisions about treatment options

Pillar Two – Environment

  1. No plastic bottled water is supplied at the practice, all single-use items are bio-plastic or compostable
  2. Recyclable or washable cups are used throughout, there is no usage of disposable cutlery or plates on site
  3. All lights, computers and electronic devices are switched off when practice is closed (apart from critical security lighting)
  4. Double-sided printing is always used (unless it is critical to use single sheets)
  5. Recycling of waste is offered on site (including paper, plastics, card, cans), and a licensed waste carrier is used with relevant Waste Transfer Notes supplied
  6. Fair Trade or Fairly Traded tea, coffee, sugar are supplied on site

Environmental standards in dentistry are constantly developing and so we will be reviewing this area frequently. If you have further ideas that have worked for your practice, please get in touch.

Pillar Three – Community & Charity

  1. At least one good cause has been selected to receive funds and this is communicated to staff and patients
  2. The team is consulted about what causes to support
  3. The practice is involved in local groups (schools/playgroups) in giving Oral Health education talks
  4. Local community events are supported through sponsorship and awareness-raising where possible
  5. A commitment to charity & community support is clearly visible and communicated to staff and patients
  6. Team members are encouraged to carry out their own fundraising
  7. Individual and team activities/fundraising schemes are in place
